Giant: The Upcoming Holiday Season

Holiday season
A disproportionate juggernaut
Approaches.

Anticipation
Consumption
Accumulation

Pinballed American Way
Gone haywire
Showing someone you care
Buying items
In musac-ed stores
Overheated in crowded disarray
Decked in plastic greenery
LED lights flashing
Hurt my eyes
Give me headaches.

Soon enough
Soon enough.

After tonight’s dressing up
Collecting mixed quality candy
Fresh and stale
Lit pumpkins barely carved, admired,
Christmas is up!

Working whisky events
I smile at everyone
To awaken a gnawing spirit of
Belonging
Of being part of a Community

By Giving,
Spending.

I melt gold wax to
Hand dip the tops of bottles as gifts.

Giant mountains of
Wax pellets
Wax melting small appliances
Glossy gift bags
Giveaway ice sphere trays
Branded cups,
Tablecloths
Tasting cards
Signage
Coupons
Cardboard, bubble wrap
Foldup tables
Required outfits

Gather
And must live somewhere

To make you happy.

Bridges–On Becoming a Parent

Handspans ago
I measured time through
Swollen fingers
Waiting for contractions
Pushes that brought
Children.
Beginnings.

Bridges over the unforeseen.
Disinterested, heretofore,
I crossed anyway.
Knee deep in ice cold waters
Murky with uncertainty
My shoes and socks got soaked.
Salted joy.

Along the way
I grabbed slimy rocks,
Dreams I thought True and
Slipped.

Playgrounds
Once structured my days,
A stopping point, fresh air, lunch,
A lifeline to other adults.
Now, just a glimpse back
Breezing by other people’s Time
A conversation piece on walks.

“I can’t believe I survived those years,”
A friend remarked.
Alone for hours, day after day,
Leaking milk through men’s shirts
I understand but
View those crossings differently.

Bridges
Threaded thimbles to hold the gush
Living life down to the bone
Raw.
The dive from gossamer pathways
A webbed wealth
Spanning meaning
Started the rest of my life.

Serenity
Bloodlines.
Identity.

Hardly Original: A Lucky List

Hardly original
I ponder a few small ways
In my day today for which
I’m Lucky
Fortunate
Grateful

To make myself see positive
While teetering on the brink
Falling into negative abyss
Unreasonable despair.

– Money arrived in the mail to deposit.

In a variable, capricious industry with constant changes and little loyalty,
Money does not always regularly come my way
So I appreciate the “Thank you” when it does.

– My water bill payment was due today
So I paid on time, not late, after all.

– I had another decent night’s sleep:
So what?

We don’t always realize how lucky we are when certain areas of life flow easily.

Apparently, numerous people struggle with getting enough sleep.

The ability to fall asleep quickly and remain asleep is something I’ve got down well.
I drift off and am able to get at LEAST 6 hard hours of sleep almost every night.
Most mornings, I wake up sufficiently refreshed.

Beautiful, cooler fall weather enables me to wear a new outfit, complete with high, over the knee boots.

Superficial, admittedly, this item still gives me a positive feeling and something to look forward to–getting dressed!

That is all for now.
What’s on your Lucky list today?
I’d love for you to share.

Careful: Letting Teens Go…

College campus visit
Fall weather glory
Flatters every academic angle
Colors social nuance with warm glow
Makes this choice within the possible.

Bikes line building entrances
Sustainability.
Amid mish mash architecture
Learning and growing.

1800’s stone cathedrals and tutors
Impose their stately Grace.
Mixed in, flat, long 1970’s burrows to
House eager minds
Burning midnight oil.

New landmark fitness center
Complete with skating arena
Indoor pool
Encourage students to
Move their bodies
To breathe healthy life beyond screens
Laced coffees, worn books
Office hours, stained notes.

Careful silence
An intentioned neutrality.
I already had my time
Of library research jubilation
Of Intense scholarship and
Social and academic exploration.
I have to let her chose
Her own way.
